What you need (core gear)
1. Boxing gloves
Your most important piece of gear.
If you are:
- Just starting → Ringside Gel Shock Safety Sparring, Title Gel World Bag, Leone 1947 Thunder, Everlast Powerlock OG Pro Training, or Venum Challenger 2.5
- Training consistently → Fly Superlace Pro X 2 (lace) or Fly Superloop Pro X 2 (velcro), Rival RS11V Evolution Sparring, Hayabusa E1, or Ringside Pro Style IMF Tech Training
- Planning to spar → Cleto Reyes Professional, Fly Superlace X, or Hayabusa Pro Boxing
Every model above has a full review on FightGearLab — scores, pros & cons, and where to buy.
2. Hand wraps
Wraps protect your hands and wrists.
- Use 180" wraps for full protection
- Cotton = traditional feel
- Elastic / Mexican style = tighter fit
Start simple. No need to overthink this.
3. Mouthguard
Required if you plan to spar.
- Basic single-layer or boil-and-bite is enough for beginners
- Upgrade later if you need a better fit
What you don’t need (yet)
Avoid buying everything at once.
You can skip:
- Boxing shoes — unless you’re training seriously (flat sneakers work early)
- Headgear — only when you start real sparring
- Expensive gloves on day one — learn what you like first
Common mistakes
- Gloves under ~$30 — they break down fast
- Bag-only gloves for sparring — unsafe for partners
- Choosing on looks alone — ignore aesthetics early
- Buying advanced gear too soon — unnecessary
Simple decision guide
If you just want a quick answer:
- Casual / trying boxing → Ringside Gel Shock, Title Gel World Bag, Leone Thunder, Everlast Powerlock OG, or Venum Challenger 2.5
- Training regularly → Fly Superlace Pro X 2 / Superloop Pro X 2, Rival RS11V, Hayabusa E1, or Ringside Pro Style IMF
- Sparring focus → Cleto Reyes Professional, Fly Superlace X, or Hayabusa Pro Boxing
